The Angel of the North is Britain's largest sculpture, standing 65 feet (20 metres) high, with a 180-foot (54-metre) wingspan and weighing 195 tons (200 tonnes). It was designed by Antony Gormley and based in part on his own body.

The statue was erected in 1998 alongside the A1 road at Gateshead, overlooking the Team Valley.
